Viele Diskussionen in der Corona-Krise drehen sich um die Anwendung mathematischer Methoden. Statistische Auswertungen, mathematische Modelle der Krankheitsausbreitung und ihrer Auswirkungen auf die Auslastung des Gesundheitssystems sind zentrale Elemente des Krisenmanagements und der Information der \u00d6ffentlichkeit.<\/p>\n

Mathematik ist von zentraler Bedeutung f\u00fcr praktisch alle Wissenschaften, die quantitative Aussagen machen – also die empirischen Wissenschaften wie Naturwissenschaften, Medizin, Wirtschaftswissenschaften etc. Der gro\u00dfe Vorteil der Mathematik ist, dass die Richtigkeit ihrer Gesetze von irgendwelchen Beobachtungen unabh\u00e4ngig ist. Innerhalb der Mathematik kann man die Richtigkeit mathematischer Zusammenh\u00e4nge logisch streng und allgemein beweisen.<\/p>\n

In den empirischen Wissenschaften jedoch stehen Beobachtungen<\/strong> und Messungen<\/strong> an erster Stelle. Mathematik wird benutzt, um die Beobachtungen genauer erfassen und quantitativ beschreiben zu k\u00f6nnen. Man misst zum Beispiel die Zeit, die ein Stein braucht, um aus unterschiedlichen H\u00f6hen auf den Boden zu fallen. Und dann sucht man aus der gro\u00dfen Menge mathematischer Funktionen diejenige heraus, die die Beobachtung am besten beschreibt – in diesem Beispiel eine Parabel. Mit der mathematischen Funktion kann man dann Fallzeiten aus H\u00f6hen vorhersagen, f\u00fcr die gar keine Messungen vorliegen.<\/p>\n

Die Richtigkeit dieser Berechnungen h\u00e4ngt davon ab, ob die mathematische Funktion die Wirklichkeit richtig beschreibt. Wenn man den Stein aus immer gr\u00f6\u00dferer H\u00f6he fallen l\u00e4sst, zeigen sich deutliche Abweichungen von der Parabelgleichung (in diesem Fall aufgrund der Luftreibung, die bei gr\u00f6\u00dferen Fallh\u00f6hen eine immer wichtigere Rolle spielt). Oder etwas anders ausgedr\u00fcckt: das mathematische Modell des Steinfalls aus niedrigen H\u00f6hen ergibt falsche Vorhersagen f\u00fcr gro\u00dfe Fallh\u00f6hen. Um die Vorhersagegenauigkeit zu erh\u00f6hen, m\u00fcssen Reibungskr\u00e4fte in der Formel ber\u00fccksichtigt werden.<\/p>\n

Diese grunds\u00e4tzliche Beschr\u00e4nkung der Richtigkeit mathematischer Modelle gilt auch f\u00fcr die Corona-Krise. Vorhersagen k\u00f6nnen nur so gut sein, wie die mathematischen Formeln die wirklichen<\/strong> Zusammenh\u00e4nge beschreiben. Zudem m\u00fcssen alle Einflussfaktoren<\/strong> im Modell ber\u00fccksichtigt werden, die Einfluss auf die Vorhersagen des Modells haben (ohne Ber\u00fccksichtigung der Reibung macht dass Fallgesetz f\u00fcr Steine falsche Vorhersagen). Und bei Corona gibt es viele Einflussfaktoren (zum Gl\u00fcck nicht ganz so viele wie beim mathematischen Modell der Wettervorhersage oder der Algorithmen zur Vorhersage von Aktienkursen…).<\/p>\n

Eine weitere Voraussetzung, dass Modelle richtige Vorhersagen machen k\u00f6nnen, sind korrekte Parameterwerte<\/strong>. Jedes Modell hat solche Parameter. Beim freien Fall ist dies die Beschleunigung des Steins durch die Erdanziehungskraft, bei der Reibung der Reibungskoeffizient: Eine Feder f\u00e4llt langsamer als ein Stein, weil ihr Reibungskoeffizient viel gr\u00f6\u00dfer ist. Bei Corona-Vorhersagen m\u00fcssen die Werte von Parametern wie Ansteckungswahrscheinlichkeit, Altersstruktur, Mortalit\u00e4ts- und Letalit\u00e4tsrate etc. bekannt sein, um verl\u00e4ssliche Vorhersagen machen zu k\u00f6nnen. Je komplexer ein Modell ist, desto mehr Parameter beeinflussen die Vorhersage des Modells. Und desto wichtiger ist die Richtigkeit der Parameterwerte. Wenn dies nicht gew\u00e4hrleistet ist, gilt analog auch hier der Spruch \u00fcber Statistik: Trau keinem Modell, das Du nicht selbst gef\u00e4lscht hast…<\/p>\n

Fazit:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mathematische Modelle k\u00f6nnen helfen, die grunds\u00e4tzlichen Mechanismen einer Pandemie zu verstehen, wenn alle Einflussgr\u00f6\u00dfen und ihre Parameterwerte bekannt sind. Leider ist dies in der Realit\u00e4t fast nie der Fall, so dass Modellvorhersagen die Wirklichkeit nur eingeschr\u00e4nkt widerspiegeln. Vorhersagen zum Pandemieverlauf sind immer mit erheblicher Vorsicht zu betrachten.<\/p>\n

Noch eine Bemerkung zum Schluss: Es ist bedeutend einfacher, korrekte Modelle im Nachhinein aufzustellen, wenn die Pandemie vorbei ist.
